I’m going to Harvard!  Well, kind of.  Ok, not really.

But, I am attending the “Jumpstarting Entrepreneurship” presentation by Harvard Business School professor and leader of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit Lynda Applegate.  It’s a program in Tacoma (WA) on Monday, July 2nd, at 5pm at the William Factory Incubator run by the awesome Tim Strege.

Why?  To stretch my brain.   To be around visionary entrepreneurs who might not know they are that yet.  To be inspired.

And, Tacoma gal pals Angela Jossy, of The Duchess of Downtown and ART BUS fame, and Michaela Eaves, designer/illustrator UI/UE goddess, are registered too.  Not sure why I didn’t think to invite my  wonder twin entrepreneurial sidekick, Andrea Olson, yet.  I must call her!

Tim says go ahead.  Invite these spirits.  If this kind of event interests you too there’s still room.  PS It’s free!

“Jumpstarting Entrepreneurship” presentation by Harvard Business School professor

and leader of the Entrepreneurial Management Unit Lynda Applegate.

In Tacoma on Monday, July 2nd, at 5pm (reception following) at the William Factory Incubator,  2nd floor atrium rotunda, 1423 East 29th Street in Tacoma, WA.

To facilitate better economic conditions, we need the startup and expansion of innovative companies with the potential for revenue growth, high quality jobs and an expanded tax base. As part of this initiative, Harvard Business professor Lynda Applegate will discuss how visionary entrepreneurs have been able to link need with know-how and people with resources to create new industry segments and new business models that transform how we work, play, and learn.

In the tech world we quickly think of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and, of course, Steve Jobs. In the world of entertainment we think of Jim Henson, Walt Disney and, once again, Steve Jobs. In the world of sports apparel and the use of stars to advertise we think of Phil Knight at Nike. This session presents how entrepreneurs and the innovation catalysts who support them navigate the early stages of the innovation lifecycle as they launch game changing innovations.

Lynda Applegate’s research focuses on the influence of information technology on markets and organizations. Her findings on the evolution of electronic commerce and on the role of information technology as an enabler of flexible and adaptive organizational designs and innovative management control systems have been widely published in the Harvard Business Review, Management Systems Quarterly, Organizational Computing, Information Systems and Decision Processes, and Operations
Research, among other journals. Applegate is the author of a custom-published casebook, Managing in an Information Age, an online course, Building E-Businesses, and is co-author of Corporate Information Strategy and Management: The Challenges of Managing in a Networked Economy and Creating Business Advantage in the Information Age.

To promote Tacoma/Pierce County’s development of an enhanced ecosystem for entrepreneurship, during the reception we will invite participants to suggest bold recommendations for comment and rankings that can be forwarded to civic leaders.

There is no cost to participate in this event.
